Matsangmu’s Seonam Manchan in Namwon: When to Mix Rice into the Hot-Stone Squid
What is the sizzling squid dish Matsangmu returned to Namwon to try? It is dolsot ojingeo-bokkeum at Seonam Manchan (서남만찬): seasoned squid served in a hot stone pot. The practical detail in his video is when to add the rice. Staff told him to mix it in while the pot was still hot, rather than save it as a separate final course.

Why did he return after missing out?
Matsangmu said a fan he met at the Chunhyang Festival recommended the restaurant. On his first attempt with his family, the waiting list was already too long even though he arrived around opening time. His July 15, 2026 video records a later visit after that unsuccessful attempt.
There was another queue at 11:30 on the weekday shown. While waiting, he described the number of groups ahead dropping from about fifteen to three in roughly half an hour. That is an account of one day's queue, not a reliable estimate of today's waiting time or a guarantee that arriving at opening secures a table.
Texture and aroma were central to his reaction
He repeatedly pointed out the thick, springy squid. The aroma of soy sauce and oil cooking together reminded him of Chinese-style stir-frying, and he liked the savoury balance once the dish was mixed with rice.
He initially wondered whether the shredded seaweed would obscure the squid's aroma, but felt the amount worked well. His final comments emphasized the squid's texture and the spicy, rich stir-fried flavour. These are his tasting observations, not a claim that we visited or tasted the dish ourselves.
Spicy and salty are useful warnings, not guarantees
He described a spicy finish that caught lightly at the back of his throat. He enjoyed it, but viewers who dislike heat or oil-rich food may respond differently. He also found the seasoned vegetable side dishes fairly salty, and the whole combination could feel saltier when eaten together.
That makes tasting before mixing all the sauce into the rice a sensible option. It is different from claiming that the restaurant offers adjustable spice or low-salt versions, neither of which was established in the checked sources.
Two portions minimum: understand the recorded menu
The Naver menu checked on October 20, 2026 listed the stone-pot squid at ₩15,000 per person. A photographed menu specified a minimum of two portions, making the base food total ₩30,000 for two at that recorded price.
Matsangmu described rice as included in his ₩15,000 order. The later photographed menu also listed a bowl of rice at ₩1,000, so confirm the charge when adding extra rice. The listed pork stir-fry was ₩16,000, while octopus stir-fry was ₩55,000 for medium and ₩65,000 for large. The pork dish was unavailable on his visit; call before travelling if a different dish is your main reason for going.
Add the rice while the pot is hot
When he asked about timing, the restaurant told him to add the rice while the stone pot retained its heat. The video shows rice being mixed into the squid and seasoning near the start of the meal. This is not the same sequence as finishing all the main ingredients and then ordering a separate fried-rice course.
The hot sauce can splash. A staff member recommended an apron in the footage, so have one ready before the food arrives and take care around the hot vessel.
Plan around the long afternoon break
The recorded address is 9 Yeokjae 1-gil, Namwon, Jeonbuk (전북 남원시 역재1길 9), with telephone 063-634-1670. The October 20 listing showed hours of 11:30–19:30 and an afternoon break from 13:30 to 17:10.
Regular closures were listed as the first and third Sunday of each month. The video description also warned that service could end when ingredients sold out. Recheck the listing and telephone before a long journey, especially if your plan depends on arriving late in either service period.
