MEOVV Narin’s Books: Bright Night and Catalina, Authors and Editions Explained

2026. 11. 2. 13:11

MEOVV’s Narin showed two novels in Vogue Japan: Choi Eun-young’s Korean-language 밝은 밤 and Catalina by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio. If you noticed a pink book in her belongings, Catalina is the title to look for. The two books are separate works, not volumes in a series.

Which books did Narin introduce?

The November 28, 2025 feature shows both covers. Narin described the story across generations in Choi Eun-young’s novel, while Catalina was a gift from fellow member Ella. These details come from her belongings feature, rather than an assumption based on a bookstore display.

What is the Korean title 밝은 밤?

The title can be romanized as Balgeun Bam and translated literally as “Bright Night.” Narin’s photographed copy is the Korean book by Choi Eun-young. Use the Korean title and author together when searching: a literal English rendering is not, by itself, evidence that a particular English edition is available.

Her introduction centers on a family story that reaches through earlier generations. For an English-speaking reader, the first practical question is therefore language. If you want to read the same Korean text, confirm that the listing is for the Korean edition. If you need a translation, check the publisher, translator and language on that specific listing before ordering.

What is Catalina about?

Penguin Random House identifies Catalina as a novel by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio. Its central character is a Harvard senior whose approaching graduation raises questions about her future and her family. It is fiction, not the author’s nonfiction book The Undocumented Americans.

That distinction helps when search results show several books by the same writer. Match both the title and author, then choose the format. The publisher offers a reading sample, which is a better guide to whether the prose suits you than the cover color alone.

Why might the cover in a shop look different?

A book can appear in different editions and formats. A photograph of Narin’s pink copy does not mean every listing with the same title will ship that exact cover. If the visual edition matters to you, compare the seller’s cover image, publisher, format and identifying details.

If reading the story matters more than matching the object, a different cover may be perfectly suitable. You can also check a library catalog before buying. For used copies, ask about notes, highlighting and physical condition instead of relying only on a stock photograph.

Which one should an English-speaking fan start with?

Start with the language you want to read. Catalina provides an English-language starting point; the photographed copy of 밝은 밤 is Korean. This is not a ranking of their literary quality, and this guide does not claim to have reviewed either novel in full.

Read a sample before deciding. Notice whether you want to continue with the voice and characters, rather than treating a favorite artist’s preference as a promise that the book will suit everyone. If you are learning Korean, inspect a sample of the Korean text before assuming that an idol’s reading choice will match your current level.

A quick edition checklist

  • Match the complete title and author.
  • Check the reading language and any translator credit.
  • Choose print, ebook or audio deliberately.
  • If matching the photograph, verify the actual cover and format.
  • Check delivery and return conditions before ordering an imported copy.

Narin’s feature offers a useful route from K-pop curiosity to reading. The most reliable next step is to identify the book accurately, try a sample and choose an edition you can comfortably enjoy.
