Sung Si-kyung’s Hwamok Sundaeguk: What to Order in Yeouido, Seoul
Looking for the Seoul soup restaurant in Sung Si-kyung’s Meogeultende food series? Hwamok Sundaeguk (화목순대국) in Yeouido is an offal-focused stop, not a mild pork-slice soup shop. Start with the regular sundae soup if you want both sausage and intestines; choose naejang-tang if you specifically enjoy offal. The current Naver listing shows both at ₩12,000.

Why Sung Si-kyung keeps coming back
Sung Si-kyung is a Korean singer who also shares restaurant visits in his YouTube series Meogeultende (먹을텐데). In this episode, he describes Hwamok as a familiar meeting place for people working around Yeouido. He says he has eaten there with many colleagues, so the visit has the feeling of returning to an old favorite.
There is a small story behind the filming, too. At the beginning, he explains that the owner initially declined his manager’s request. He came in person four days before filming to ask again, and received permission.
His enthusiasm centers on the rich flavor of daechang, or large intestine. He orders a regular bowl so he can demonstrate an extra serving of offal later. That is his personal preference, not a reason to assume every first-time visitor will enjoy the same order.
What is sundae soup—and will you like it?
Here, sundae means Korean blood sausage, not an ice-cream dessert. Sundae soup is generally a pork-based soup with sausage and often offal. Hwamok’s version is notable for its emphasis on intestines: Sung contrasts it with soups centered on sliced head meat.
In the video, the rice is already mixed into the soup. He says the broth is fairly salty before adding seasoning and pairs the rich offal with raw green onion. If you enjoy strongly flavored organ meat, that combination may appeal to you. If you dislike its aroma or texture, this is worth knowing before you travel across Seoul.
His manager does not like the large intestine. Sung explains that the manager asks for sausage without the offal. The current menu also lists sundae-tang, but confirm the contents with the staff rather than assuming the broth or every ingredient changes with the order.

Useful Korean phrases at the table
순대국 하나 주세요.
“One sundae soup, please.”
Sundae-guk hana juseyo.
내장 빼고 순대만 넣어 주실 수 있나요?
“Could you leave out the offal and use only sausage?”
Show this sentence to the staff. It is a request, not a guarantee that every ingredient can be changed.
Taste the broth before adding saeujeot, the salted shrimp condiment shown in the video. Sung uses a little in the soup and some on the sausage. If you avoid pork, blood products or shellfish, check the ingredients directly; asking for no offal does not make this a vegetarian or pork-free dish.
