Nam Yoon-su’s Egg-Mayo Sandwich: What the 3-Minute Recipe Actually Means

Nam Yoon-su’s egg-mayo sandwich starts with three beaten eggs in the microwave, rather than a pot of hard-boiled eggs. KBS calls it a “3-minute egg-mayo sandwich,” but those three minutes refer to the microwave step: trimming the bread, mixing the filling and assembling it still come afterwards.

What goes into the sandwich?

The official Fun-staurant Episode 231 recipe uses two slices of sandwich bread and three eggs. Honey mustard and sugar season the egg filling, while mayonnaise is used both in the filling and on the bread.

  • 2 slices of sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 3 eggs, beaten together
  • Mayonnaise: two squeezes around the bowl, plus some to spread on the bread
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey mustard
  • Black pepper and parsley

KBS describes the mayonnaise as “two circles,” without specifying tablespoons or grams. That makes it a squeeze-bottle instruction, not a precise volume. Pepper and parsley also have no measured quantity in the published list.

The microwave step comes first

  1. Trim the crusts from two slices of bread.
  2. Beat the three eggs in a microwave-safe bowl. Cover loosely and microwave for the three minutes stated in the recipe.
  3. Add the mayonnaise, sugar, honey mustard and pepper to the cooked eggs. Mix while breaking the eggs into small pieces.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on the inside of the bread. Spoon the filling onto one slice and cover with the second.
  5. Finish with parsley, as shown in the official directions.

The eggs are cracked and beaten before heating; this is not an instruction to microwave eggs in their shells. Use a microwave-safe bowl and cover. The KBS page does not give a microwave wattage, so the named time is the programme’s instruction rather than a guarantee for every appliance. Check that the eggs are fully cooked before making the filling.

How this differs from boiled-egg mayo

The difference is the order of preparation. There is no boiling, cooling and peeling stage in the published method. The eggs are cooked together and then broken up while the condiments are mixed in. Keep the microwave step separate from the seasoning step: the mayonnaise and mustard are added afterwards.

Honey mustard is the specified condiment. Plain mustard is not the exact same ingredient, and the source does not give a substitute ratio. Likewise, changing the sugar or mayonnaise amounts would be your adjustment rather than the recipe as published.

Is it really ready in three minutes?

Allow time beyond the microwave timer. The recipe still asks you to cut the bread, beat the eggs, mash the filling and assemble the sandwich. It is useful as a short ingredient-list lunch idea, but the title should not be read as a tested total preparation time.

The quantities make one sandwich from two slices of bread; the official page does not state a serving size, calorie count or storage period. This guide follows the published method and does not claim a personal taste test.
